Pro-Kejriwal Chants At PM Modi’s Roadshow ? No, Viral Video Is Edited – Newschecker

A 25 second clip, allegedly from the PM’s Surat rally, which shows the crowd purportedly raising pro-Kejriwal slogans, is going viral on social media platforms. Newschecker found that the viral footage of the PM waving, while “Kejriwal-Kejriwal” chants can be heard, is digitally modified to add the pro-Kejriwal chants.

Members of the AAP, which is touting itself as a synonym to ‘Parivartan’  in Gujarat,  were among several Twitter users who shared the video claiming to show the wind of change in the state.

Archived versions of such tweets can be seen here, here, here and here.

The video is gaining traction on Facebook too.

Fact Check/Verification

We conducted Google reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral footage, which led us to a Facebook post by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, dated November 27, 2022. Carrying a video of the Prime Minister waving at the crowd, the post stated in Gujarati, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi was welcomed by the citizens at Surat with great affection and enthusiasm.”

On comparing the keyframes of viral video and clip posted by Patel, we could conclude that they both are identical. Following this, we adjusted the playback speed of the video shared by the Gujarat CM to 0.5, and analysed it carefully but could not hear any chants of “Kejriwal, Kejriwal” in the 25-second-long-footage. The crowd can be heard cheering for Modi.

Furthermore, a keyword search for “PM Modi,” “ Roadshow,” “Surat,” & “November 27” on Google yielded a YouTube video by NDTV dated November 27, 2022. Titled ‘Gujarat Elections: PM Modi’s Roadshow In Surat Ahead Of Gujarat Elections,’ the video carried the same visuals as seen in the viral clip. However, the video did not have any pro-Kejriwal slogans.

Aaj Tak also uploaded the viral clip from PM Modi’s Surat rally on its YouTube channel.

We could thus conclude that the audio of crowd chanting “Kejriwal, Kejriwal” has been digitally added to the viral video from Modi’s recent roadshow in Surat.

Furthermore, we found another video which carried similar audio as heard in the viral clip, indicating that pro-Kejriwal slogans could have been raised at the same car rally, but possibly a different location. However, Newschecker could not independently verify the veracity of the same.

Conclusion

Viral video of PM Modi waving at people as people raise pro-Kejriwal slogans, was found to be digitally altered to add the “Kejriwal, Kejriwal” chants.

Result: Altered Video
