The recently formed Congress government in Karnataka has rolled back the Hijab ban in educational institutes.
An over-one-year-old video is being shared in a false context. The state government has not taken any such decision yet.
A 26 second long video, showing girls in burqas and hijabs entering a premises guided by police personnel, even as a huge crowd of onlookers flank either side of the entrance, is being widely shared on social media platforms. Those sharing the video claimed that hijab has been allowed again in Karnataka colleges and thanked the Congress leaders for rolling back the ban imposed by the previous government. Newschecker found the claim to be untrue and that the video shared as evidence to support the allegation is over one-year-old.
Multiple Facebook and Twitter shared the video alleging that hijab has now been allowed in all colleges in Karnataka.

Did Karnataka Congress Government Roll Back The Hijab Ban?
We did not find any credible news reports stating that the Congress has revoked the Hijab ban in Karnataka so far. Though some reports did suggest that the Siddaramaiah-led government will “review” contentious decisions taken by the previous government, or that it is “all set remove the ban on hijab in the state, according to sources.”
Further, news agency ANI quoted Karnataka minister Dr G Parameshwara as saying, “We will see in future what best we can do. Right now, we have to fulfil the five guarantees we made to the people of Karnataka,” on Amnesty India’s demand to roll back the hijab ban.
